Meet the Team Behind DB Digital Laboratory: The Expertise Behind Every Appliance

At DB Digital Laboratory, every appliance is the result of a carefully managed process that combines advanced digital technology with decades of orthodontic laboratory experience. From the moment a prescription or digital scan is received to the final quality checks before dispatch, every stage is overseen by a team committed to delivering predictable clinical outcomes.

Technology plays an important role in modern orthodontics, but it doesn't replace experience - it enhances it. Behind every digital workflow is a team of highly skilled technicians, designers and laboratory specialists who work together to help practices deliver efficient, patient-focused treatment.

Experience That Drives Innovation

Leading the laboratory is Mike Orridge, Laboratory Manager, whose 36 years of orthodontic dental technology experience provide the foundations for everything we do.

Having worked across specialist orthodontic laboratories and practices throughout his career, Mike understands the challenges clinicians face every day. His experience allows him to bridge the gap between traditional craftsmanship and modern digital manufacturing, ensuring every appliance is designed with both clinical objectives and patient comfort in mind.

This collaborative philosophy is the core of DB Digital Laboratory and influences every member of the team.

From Prescription to Precision

Once a prescription, impression or digital scan is received, every case is reviewed to ensure all the information required for production is available. Clear communication at this stage helps reduce delays and allows the team to fully understand the treatment objectives before any design work begins.

Digital submissions are then prepared for production, with STL files processed and models produced using advanced 3D printing technology. This vital stage is managed by Rosie Whiteoak, whose role ensures cases move efficiently through the laboratory while maintaining excellent communication with practices.

From coordinating incoming cases and preparing digital files to managing 3D printing and final dispatch, Rosie plays a key role in keeping the laboratory running smoothly.

Designing Around the Patient

Using advanced CAD software and digital design platforms, Harry Miles, our Digital Appliance Designer, creates patient-specific appliances tailored to each clinician's treatment objectives.

Whether designing Rapid Maxillary Expanders (RMEs), TAD-supported appliances, Digital TPAs or developing entirely new appliance concepts, precision is central to every design.

Harry's engineering background allows DB Digital Laboratory to undertake complex digital projects that many laboratories simply cannot offer.

Closer collaboration between clinician and laboratory leads to better patient outcomes. With this in mind, clients are encouraged to provide high-quality scans and detailed prescriptions, which help produce better-fitting appliances and faster turnaround times.

Bringing Designs to Life

Once designs have been approved, the manufacturing process begins.

Wendy Pickford, Dental Laboratory Assistant, helps manufacture and finish many of the appliances produced at DB Digital Lab. Whether manufacturing digital appliances or supporting more traditional workflows, attention to detail remains essential. Every component is carefully assembled, finished and inspected to ensure it meets the highest standards before leaving the laboratory.

Quality Through Collaboration

One of the greatest strengths of DB Digital Laboratory is the way the team works together: every case benefits from shared knowledge and open communication.

Mike provides technical guidance and clinical insight, Harry develops digital appliance designs and will liaise with clients, Rosie coordinates workflow and customer communication, while Wendy ensures every appliance is manufactured and finished to the highest standard.

This collaborative approach allows the team to continually refine designs, solve complex cases and provide clinicians with expert technical support throughout the manufacturing process. It is also what enables DB Digital Laboratory to continue developing innovative digital appliances that help practices reduce chair time, improve patient comfort and streamline treatment.
